Madras High Court today confirmed its earlier order rejecting a plea from students of the defunct DD Medical College and Hospital at Kunnavalam in Tiruvallur district to admit them in other government medical colleges in the state.

Originally, while passing orders on a batch of writ petitions on January 20, a single judge had directed the government to admit the students in other government medical colleges.

The government and Dr MGR Medical University filed writ appeals and the bench of Justice M Jaichandran and Justice M Venugopal on April 30 reversed the order of the single judge.

The bench had said the students are not entitled to claim any right for being accommodated in government medical colleges in the state. As such, their claim for admission in government medical colleges in different academic years of the MBBS course, cannot be countenanced, it had said following which the students welfare association filed the present review applications.

Dismissing them, the court observed that it was appropriate to reject the contentions raised by the students as they were devoid of merits and unsustainable in the eye of law.

"Therefore, we find it appropriate to dismiss the review applications holding that the applicants have not made out a case for this court to review its earlier order dated April 30," the bench said.
