The Delhi High Court has dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of a woman, a co-accused in a case of death due to dowry of her sister-in-law, who allegedly committed suicide on October 2 in her matrimonial home here.

Konika was a manager of Punjab National Bank and had tied the nuptial knot with Nitin, a senior officer of Reserve Bank of India in February 2012. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her home in R K Puram.

Nitin, who is in jail, and his sister Bindu Sood, working as secretary with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), are also accused in the case registered for offences of dowry death and subjecting a married woman to cruelty under the IPC.

Justice Sunita Gupta rejected the bail plea of Sood and allowed the submissions of Ritu Gauba, additional standing counsel for Delhi Police, that the probe is at the initial stage and the statements of others are being recorded.

"The accused (Sood) is directly related to the victim and has been living in a nearby locality. The bail should not be granted," the counsel said, adding this is a crime against a woman.

She also referred to the FIR, registered at the R K Puram police station and said that the offence has taken place within three years of the marriage and moreover, the victim has a minor son.

Sood had been harassing the victim, the counsel for police said, adding that the accused had been using the car given to the victim and her husband in dowry.
