The Madras High Court has directed the Thirukalukundram Tahsildar to consider a complaint alleging that certain persons have encroached upon a five acre burial ground in Sathurangapattinam village in Kancheepuram district.

The Tahsildar should examine the complaint dated March 16 this year of D Duraiswamy of Vaniyar Street, after issuing notice to all concerned, and a decision is to be taken within three months, and the result must be communicated to the petitioner, the First Bench of Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana said last week.

The bench was disposing of a PIL, which alleged that certain influential persons had encroached upon the burial ground in a phased manner and set up prawn farms.

The petitioner lodged a complaint with Kancheepuram District Collector on March 16 last and it was forwarded to the Tahsildar. But there was no action on the part of the Tahsildar, the petitioner alleged.
