The Madurai Bench of the Madras High court directed the Anna University Registrar to file a status report on a petition seeking to quash the notification issued by him for recruitment of 178 Associate Professors and 102 Professors without earmarking 75 per cent of the Posts for promotion under Career Advancement Scheme(CAS).
Justice D.Hariparanthanam gave a direction on a petition filed by three Assistant professors of the University who sought a direction to quash the notification, and posted the case for hearing on December 10.
The petitioners submitted as per the UGC regulations, 20 per cent of the posts alone could be filled by direct recruitment. The remaining 75 per cent should be filled by CAS promotion from among the eligible Assistant professors and associate professors. "But the notification issued by the registrar on November 8,does not provide for such promotion under CAS."
