Madras High Court today directed the Tamil Nadu Government to constitute a state level coordination committee within a month if it had not been set up so far as required under Section 13 of the Persons with disabilities Act,1955.
The directive was issued by first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M M Sundresh during the hearing of the suo motu PIL taken up by the court following the attack by police on visually challenged persons during a protest recently.
It had directed the government and the Police authorities to submit some guidelines with regard to handling of the protests and demonstration of persons with special needs.

When the matter came up today, the bench perused the affidavit by S.Ashok Kumar, the General Secretary of College Students and Graduates Association of Blind in which it was claimed that no State Co-ordination committee had been constituted under Section 13 of the Persons with disabilities Act, 1955.
It then asked the government to set up the committee within one month if did not exist as stated by the association and closed the PIL.
