The Madras High Court today directed the jail authorities at Coimbatore to produce before it on September 5 a women prisoner, who allegedly underwent physical harassment by police after her arrest in connection with a murder case.
The court had earlier asked the Coimbatore district judge to arrange for medical examination of the woman in a state or central government hospital and file a report, following a petition by the woman's daughter who alleged that her mother was physically harassed by police after her arrest on August 14.
The petitioner contented that the prison authorities themselves had refused to take her mother in without medical certificate explaining her injuries. The remanding magistrate also took serious exception to the treatment meted out to her.

"In the light of these findings, I am of the view that the respondents should be directed to produce the victim before this court at 2.15 pm on September 5," the judge said.
The woman was arrested in connection with the murder of the owner of her rented house last month.
Justice Ramasubramanyam also instructed the district judge to make arrangements for treatment of the women for injuries, if any, in a fairly reasonable and good hospital.
