The Jharkhand High Court today directed the police to arrest JMM MLA Sita Soren, accused of assaulting a key witness in connection with cash-for-vote scam during the 2010 Rajya Sabha elections, by May 6.

The bench of Chief Justice P C Tatia and Justice Jaya Roy warned that the Jharkhand Police Chief and the state Home Secretary would be summoned for personal appearance if the police fail to arrest her within the deadline set by the court.

The court pulled up the police for its failure to arrest Sita Soren who has been evading arrest after an FIR accused her of assaulting her private secretary late last year for allegedly being a witness in the case.

The police had on April 2 sought time till April 15 to arrest the legislator and the court had set the date for today.

The court had on March 6 also pulled up the state police for their failure in arresting Sita Soren in connection with the assault charge filed against her.
