The Madras High Court Bench here today directed the Superintendent of Police of Tirunelveli district to file a report tomorrow regarding action taken to trace a minor boy with whom a 29-year-old teacher had eloped at Tenkasi in March.

Justices S Nagamuthu and V S Ravi gave the direction on a habeas corpus petition filed by Mariammal, the mother of the boy Sivasundara Pandian.

Counsel for Mariammal submitted that police had not even registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police had only registered a 'boy missing case' on the day he went missing on March 31 but did not take any step to trace him.

The counsel charged that the teacher had kidnapped the 15-year-old boy and Mariammal feared that her son's life was in danger. Though she had sent a detailed representation to the Chief Minister's Cell and also higher police officials, no effective step had been taken so far.

When the boy went away from the house, 136 grams of gold jewelleries was found missing and Rs 10,000 cash drawn from ATM.

The court directed the police official to file a report regarding action taken on the matter tomorrow.
