The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today directed the Sivaganga district Superintendent of Police to appear in connection with a complaint against Karaikudi North Police Station personnel, who assaulted a theatre supervisor on January 16.
According to the petitioner Ganesan, two police personnel including Sub Inspector Durai Singam and one constable of the station, who were not in uniform, stopped the petitioner and asked him who he was.
When he asked for their identity, they assaulted him and abused him in filthy language. They took him to the police station and assaulted him and took his signature in blank papers, he submitted.

The attack was so brutal that he could not even walk and had to be admitted to Government Hospital at Karaikudi from where he lodged a complaint against the SI and the police personnel.
Copy of the complaint was also sent to the DSP, DIG and the IG, however no action was taken, he contended.
Justice C T Selvam today directed the Sivaganga district SP to appear in the court on January 28.
