HC directs state govt to file status report onrising

The Himachal Pradesh High Court today directed the state governmentto file a status report by August 3 this year on rising industrial pollution in Baddi and impleaded Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh Development Authority as arespondent in the matter.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Sandeep Sharma, passed the orders on a petition taken upsuo motuby the Court as Public Interest Litigation on a news item "Polutionh Rises in Baddi as Effluent Plant Under-used" published in an English daily on July 1 last.

The news suggested that less then 50 per cent industrial units of Baddi Industrial area send untreated effluents to the CETP (Common Effluent Treatment Plant).
 

It was further reported that the plant is treating 11 million liters waste per day as against the proposed 25 million liters daily.
