The Orissa High Court today asked state Vigilance Directorate to submit before it in a sealed cover the preliminary inquiry report based on which an FIR was registered against former DGP Prakash Mishra who is now DG of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Adjudicating over a petition by Mishra in which he has sought quashing of the FIR against him, Justice S C Parija directed the Vigilance Directorate to submit the inquiry report before the next date of hearing fixed on February 24.

The HC direction came when the Vigilance counsel pointed out that the FIR against Mishra was registered after the departmental inquiry was made over the procurement of building materials during Mishra's tenure as chairman of Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.

Mishra is facing the vigilance case for allegedly showing undue favour to some suppliers in 2006 thereby causing pecuniary loss to the state exchequer.

Mishra, who is now on central deputation, was in November last year summoned by Vigilance to give his views on the case. He had then expressed his inability to respond to the summons in view of his assignment priorities.

During that period, Mishra was holding the key position of Special Secretary (internal security) in the union Home Ministry and he had reportedly expressed his inability as the Parliament session was on.

In the meantime, he was appointed DG of CRPF and the state Vigilance has not yet fixed any fresh date to summon him.
