The Madras High Court bench here today upheld a trial court order sentencing a 30-year old man to life imprisonment for stabbing to death his mother in 2011.

Dismissing an appeal by accused Manikandam Prabhu, Justices A Selvam and G Chockalingam rejected the contention of the appellant that he was mentally disturbed and had psychiatric disorder when he stabbed his mother to death on November 30, 2011.

The court noted that the father of the accused did not state during the trial that his son was mentally disturbed.

Besides, no medical certificate had been produced to prove the claim for the mentally challenged condition, the Judges said.

The trial court had on January 13, 2013 convicted Prabhu and sentenced him to life imprisoment for committing matricide.
