The Allahabad High Courttoday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the Kashi Vishwanath corridor and the Ganga Pathway project at Varanasi.
A bench comprising Chief Justice DB Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Varma dismissed thePILfiled by Sunil Kumar Singh of Varanasi seeking a stay on the projects.
In the petition, a request was made to release the blueprint of the scheme, stay the demolition of houses surrounding Kashi Vishwanath temple and not to evict locals from their residences for building the Kashi Vishwanath corridor.
The contention of the petitioner was that the demolition of houses and construction of corridor will change the original structure of the city.
The court while dismissing the PIL was of the view that the Kashi Vishwanath corridor was for the benefit of public at large and development projects cannot be halted in such a manner.
