The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a PIL challenging the appointment of Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal terming it "not maintainable".

The order was passed by the Lucknow bench of justices Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and Vijay Laxmi.

In his PIL, lawyer Tripuresh Tripathi had alleged that Singhal was appointed Chief Secretary superseding other senior officers.

On behalf of the state government, Additional Advocate General (AAG) Bulbul Godiyal contended before the court that PILs were not maintainable in service matters and Singhal was appointed as per provisions of law.

The court dismissed the petition terming it "not maintainable", the AAG said.
