The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a PIL seeking a direction against issuing of advertisements bearing photographs of political leaders with public funds on the grounds that that they do not hold any post in the government.

A Lucknow bench comprising Chief Justice Shiv Kirti Singh and Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhaya pronounced the order on a PIL filed by a local lawyer.

"We do not find any good reason to grant the prayer made in the PIL, accordingly it is dismissed," the court said.

The petitioner had sought a direction prohibiting advertisements of political leaders in print and electronic media on government expenditure, calling them illegal.

He said that advertisements carrying the photographs of the leaders not occupying any government posts should be issued by their respective political parties and not at the cost of government funds.
