Madras High Court today dismissed a petition seeking a direction to authorities to take action against Viduthalai Chiruthaaigal Katchi candidate D Ravikumar contesting from the Thiruvallur Lok Sabha constituency, for allegedly acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income when he was MLA.
Citing a Supreme Court judgment, the First Bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundresh, which dismissed the petition filed by one A Mahendran, in its order, said authorities concerned required at least three to six months to dispose of the representation made to them.
In the present case, the representation was filed on March 13 this year and came before the court with the authorities not being given sufficient time, the court said.
The petitioner Mahendran alleged that Ravikumar, who was retired bank staff in Syndicate Bank, contested on VCK ticket and won in the 2006 assembly polls and acquired several properties during the period as MLA, which was disproportionate to his known sources of income.
