HC dismisses plea seeking CBI probe into theft at VAT office

The Delhi High Court today dismissed a PIL seeking a CBI probe into the theft of seized valuables from the department of trade and taxes of the state government.

A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice R S Endlaw declined to hand over the probe from Delhi police to CBI, saying the FIR has already been lodged and a probe is on.

"The authorities are seized of the matter and even the FIR is in the court, let the law deal with it," the bench said.

It was hearing a PIL filed by one Avadh Kaushik seeking a CBI or SIT probe into the theft.
 

The petitioner has alleged a case of house tresspass and theft has been registered against unnamed persons as the matter pertains to an organized conspiracy for siphoning off huge amount of valuables from the department.

He alleged the seized valuables worth crores of rupees have been stolen on May 10 but the inventory of stolen goods have not been mentioned in the FIR.
