Madras High Court today disposed of a contempt petition after the Tamil Nadu Government informed it about the decision to grant permission for starting a private law college in Tindivanam in Villupuram District.

Advocate General A Navaneethakrishnan produced a copy of the February 25 G.O. Issued by the state Law Department in this regard complying with the court's January 29 order.

Since the court's direction has been complied with by the government, a Division Bench comprising Justices R Banumathi and K Ravichandrabaabu closed the contempt petition against the state government.

The court had earlier dismissed the state government's revision petition, challenging a single judge's order directing the law department to give a 'No Objection Certificate' to Vanniar Educational Trust to open the law college.

The Trust had filed the contempt petition seeking to punish the Law Secretary for allegedly not complying with the court order.
