The Madras High Court today disposed of a petition filed by DMK MP T R Baalu after recording the submission of the Election Commission of India that it will take all necessary steps to ensure free and fair polls.

Baalu had alleged that illegal activities like distribution of cash or in kind to voters were taking place with assistance of government and police officials.

He also alleged that the Election Commission and its officials were acting hand in glove with ruling AIADMK party, without even taking any steps to arrest these types of illegal activities.

In his reply, senior counsel for the Election Commission G Rajagopalan submitted that if there were certain specific allegations or complaints, it will be looked into forthwith and strict action taken against erring officials, candidates and other persons.

It was also submitted that the Control Room will be monitored round the clock and no call will go unattended.

The First Bench, comprising the Acting Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundresh, after recording the submission, disposed of the petition.
