The Madras High Court today disposed a petition filed by Dr K Krishnasamy, president, Puthiya Tamilagam Party, seeking to direct the Election Commission for alloting his party the symbol of TV in the April 24 Lok Sabha Elections from Tamil Nadu.

The First Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundresh disposed the petition after recording the submissions made by G Rajagopalan, counsel for the ECI, that the Returning Officer for Tenkasi Lok Sabha Constituency will take a decision on the matter at an appropriate date in accordance with the law.

"In view of the submission, nothing survives for adjudication", the bench said.

Krishnasamy submitted that it has used the symbol of TV in the recent past election and there would not be hardship to any other political party in Tamil Nadu if his party is allotted the symbol.

He alleged that ECI had in February rejected his representation for allotting the TV symbol.

The bench also disposed a petition by Manithaneya Makkal Katchi to allot the symbol of candles stating that it will be decided in accordance with law before the last date of filing of nominations.
