The Madras High Court today constituted a five-member committee to fix fares for omnibuses in Tamil Nadu and directed it to complete holding its first sitting in seven days and submit its report in four weeks.
Based on the committee's report, the state government should file its report in 12 weeks on the action taken, the court said.
The committee would comprise the Transport Commissioner, revenue officials and those from the judiciary, it said.
The court had initiated suo motu action following reports that omni bus operators were fleecing passengers during Diwali and other festival seasons.
