The Patna High Court today acquitted nine persons, including former LJP MP Surajbhan Singh, earlier convicted by a trial court in the murder of former RJD state minister Brij Bihari Singh over a decade and a half ago.

A division bench of Justice V N Sinha and Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari acquitted the nine accused in the murder case for want of evidence.

The nine persons were awarded life imprisonment by a trial court in 2009.

Those acquitted included former LJP MP Surajbhan Singh, ex-JD(U) MLA Munna Shukla and ex-MLA Rajan Tiwari.

Former Bihar minister Brij Bihari Singh was gunned down in Patna on June 13, 1998.

An accused in the engineering admissions scam, Brij Bihari was gunned down by heavily armed men inside the premises of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna while he was on an evening walk.

He was under treatment in a government hospital here while in judicial custody.
