The Madras High Court today granted bail to 118 persons arrested in connection with recent violence in Ambur in Vellore District.
Justice R Subbaiah granted bail with the condition that they should stay in Krishnagiri and sign before the local police station in the morning and in the evening.
The Judge directed them to appear before the Judicial Magistrate, Ambur, and execute a personal bond of Rs.10,000 and a surety of the like sum.

They were arrested on June 27 in connection with the violence triggered by alleged custodial death of a man questioned by police over an extra-marital affair.
According to police, several residents of Ambur town, along with several unnamed persons, allegedly attacked police personnel besides causing damage to vehicles by pelting stones and setting them on fire in protest against police over the death.
The petitioners alleged that police resorted to indiscriminate arrest of several innocent persons, including them, and falsely implicated them.
