The Orissa High Court today granted conditional bail to Dandapani Mohanty, who was arrested on charge of having Maoist links.

Justice C R Dash granted him bail after hearing the last of the 24 cases against him and ordered the trial court in Berhampur to release him after imposing conditions deemed fit.

Arrested on sedition charges in February 2013, the 70-year-old man is currently lodged in a jail in Berhampur.

Mohanty has 24 cases against him, most of which were related to Naxal violence. While the trial court had acquitted him in 19 of those cases, the High Court had earlier granted him bail in the remaining four cases.

Mohanty had negotiated with the Maoists and helped the Odisha government resolve two abduction cases in the past.
