The Orissa High Court today imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the state chief secretary for the government's failure to file an affidavit despite the court's repeated reminders since 2015 in a matter pending before it.

A bench of justices Sanju Panda and Sujit Narayan Prasad imposed the fine on the chief secretary expressing displeasure over the government's failure in complying with the court's orders.

The court imposed the fine while adjudicating a review petition filed by the government, which had challenged a State Administrative Tribunal's order pertaining to the Odisha Civil Service (OCS) examinations of 1987.

The Odisha government had approached the court in 2015. While adjudicating thge plea, the high court had directed the government to file an affidavit.
