The Madras High court today
ordered notice to the Principal Secretary to the state Governor, who is also the Chancellor, regarding appointment of P P Chelladurai as the Vice Chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University here.
A division bench of the court's Madurai bench, comprising Justices K K Sasidharan and G R Swaminathan, directed the principal secretary to file his counter and also produce records relating to the appointment of Chelladurai as VC.
The bench had already ordered issue of notice to the registrar of the MKU and also Principal secretary for Higher education department.
The bench was hearing a PIL filed by one Lionel M Anthony Arulraj.
The Search committee, constituted by the government, did not hold serious discussions over the candidates, the petitioner alleged and sought a direction for restraining Chelladurai from functioning as VC till the case was decided.
