The Madras High Court Friday issued notice to authorities on petitions alleging that appointment orders had been issued to three people as panchayat secretaries in Tiruvarur district on basis of recommendation by a Tamil Nadu minister and without following any procedure.

Justice R Mahadevan made it clear that any appointment pursuant to the impugned November 2 orders will be subject to the result of the petitions.

He issued notices to the District Collector and other officials concerned, directing them to file their counters within four weeks.

He posted the petitions after four weeks for further hearing.

The three petitioners from Tiruvarur districts alleged irregularities in the issuance of the appointment orders by the respective block development officers.

The petitioners claimed that they came to know that Minister Kamaraj had directed all the appointing authorities to provide appointment to only those recommended by him.
