The Madras High Court has issued notice to DMK MLA and former city Mayor M Subramanian on a petition alleging that he was attempting to encroach a government property here.
A division bench of justices M Sathyanarayanan and P Rajamanickam issued notices to the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO), the Industries Development Corporation of India and Subramanian, returnable by June 29, on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by one S Panthiban.
The bench, in its interim order, said, "In the light of the communication given by the Public Information Officer of SIDCO, notice to the respondents through court as well as privately, returnable by June 29."
The petitioner has submitted that Subramanian, in his nomination papers filed for the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, had stated that a property at Labour Colony in Guindy was registered in the name of his wife, Kanchana.
Alleging that the information was false, the petitioner has said the property was allotted to S K Kannan by the Industries and Commerce Department on February 14, 1959 and he had died in 2015, leaving behind six daughters and a son.
The legal heir certificate had confirmed it and Kanchana's name was not found in it, the petitioner has submitted.

The petitioner has alleged that Subramanian, also a lawyer, had used his power and political influence to create many documents, which were produced before SIDCO and other authorities with an intention to grab the government property.
He has also alleged that the officials of SIDCO had colluded with Subramanian.
The petitioner has further submitted that despite his representation dated April 12 to the authorities concerned, no action was taken to remove Subramanian and Kanchana from the property.
He has said that hence, the current PIL was filed, seeking the removal of Subramanian and his wife from the property owned by SIDCO.
