The Uttarakhand High Court today issued a notice to former chief minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank and about six government officials in connection with allotment of 15 acre state land for free to an institution in which the BJP leader's close relatives hold important offices.

A division bench comprising Justices P C Pant and V K Bisht issued notice to the former CM and other officers on a PIL filed by one Pawan Kumar who challenged the legality of the alleged free allocation of 15 acre of government land worth crores of rupees to Himalayan Ayurved Yog and Naturopathy Institute in 2005.

Close relatives of Nishank are said to be holding offices in the institute which stands on the land today.

The court has asked the respondents to submit their response within four weeks.
