The Madras High Court today issued notice to T Mariyappan, a gold medal-winning Indian paralympic high jumper, in connection with the death of a youth in June.
Justice M S Ramesh issued the notice, returnable by November 14.
The judge had on September 11 impleaded Mariappan as a respondent in the case while admitting a petition from M Muniyammal, mother of the deceased.
The Salem-based petitioner had alleged that after Mariyappan and his associates assaulted her son M Satish Kumar, he was found dead near a railway track in the district.
The alleged assault occurred after her 19-year-old son accidentally rammed his two-wheeler into Mariyappan's car, which damaged its 'door-handle' and it led to a quarrel.
Muniyammal contended that her son fell over the car after losing control of his motorcycle due to bad condition of the road and an obstruction.
However, Mariyappan and his friends thrashed Satish and when he escaped and reached home, they again attacked him brutally, she alleged.
When Mariyappan and his associates snatched his mobile phone, he ran behind them and since then he was missing. Satish was later found dead near a railway track in the vicinity of the village, she claimed.
Muniyammal sought police protection, alleging that Mariyappan, two of his associates and unidentified "henchmen" continuously harassed her and family and threatened them with dire consequences.
She alleged that police did not act on her complaint against Mariyappan as he was a celebrity sportsman.
As there was no effective action, she filed the criminal original petition to implead Mariyappan and his friends as parties in the case, she added.
