HC issues notices to TN govt, wakf board

The Madras High Court today issued notice to the state government and Tamil Nadu Wakf Board on a plea for quashing a government order nominating A Tamilmahan Husaain as member of the board.

Justice K Ravichandra Baabu before whom the petition filed by A.K. Rafi Baig of Chennai came up for hearing, directed the respondents to file their reply within three weeks.

The petitioner submitted as per the Wakf Act, a person to be nominated by the state government should have professional experience either in town planning or business management, social work, finance or revenue, agriculture and development activities put together.
 

He submitted that the present nomination does not disclose in which field the nominee is having professional experience.

The petitioner further alleged that no notification was issued by the Secretary, Backward and Most Backward Minority Welfare Department of the state government inviting applications to be nominated under the clause of Personal and professional experience in various fields.

The petitioner sought quashing of the government order appointing A. Tamilmahan Husaain as a member of Tamil Nadu Wakf Board.
