Calcutta High Court judge Debasish Kar Gupta today expressed displeasure over a section of civic police volunteers allowing government cars to illegally ferry passengers and slack traffic management on an arterial road in the city.

On his way to the high court, Justice Kar Gupta had witnessed civic police volunteers allowing government cars pick up passengers by blocking the busy AJC Bose Road flyover approach in Park Circus area.

The judge's car was among the vehicles caught in the snarl owing to such activities.

On reaching the court, he summoned state Advocate General Kishore Dutta and asked him how government cars were brazenly being allowed by civic police volunteers to illegally pick up passengers by blocking other vehicles.

Justice Kar Gupta directed Dutta to ask the Kolkata Traffic Police authorities to take immediate corrective measures in the matter.

The advocate general assured him that strict action would be taken against erring civic police volunteers.
