A veteran legal professional with 35 years of experience - 22 years as lawyer and 13 years as judge, Justice Sikri was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court High on October 10 last year. He is likely to take oath as Punjab and Haryana High court's chief justice on Sunday evening.

Justice D Murugesan of the Madras High Court is likely to be sworn in as Delhi High Court's chief justice on September 26 after Justice Sikri.

Addressing the lawyers and judges, an emotional Justice Sikri said, "I loved this court and every one associated with this court room from the core of my heart. In return, I have received much more love and affection of all of you.

"It is not easy to leave this place where I will not be able to return at all in this life of mine, either as a lawyer or a judge. It is this feeling that makes me sad and makes my heart heavy," he said.

Speaking about his experience as judge, he said a lot needed to be done for improving the administration of justice.

Reading out prayer meant for judges, 58 year-old Justice Sikri said, "Every judge should memorise and recite it every day. Its message is that a judge discharges divine function and a judge in that prayer is praying to God to be merciful to him so that he is able to administer justice." (More)
