The Madras High Court today ordered status quo on a July 20 order of the Tamil Nadu government including the name of IPS officer S R Jangid in the panel of officers recommended for the post of DGP.

Justice S M Subramaniam passed the order on a petition filed by petitioner Vidya, who alleged that the IPS officer had protected a man whom she claimed had cheated her of Rs 25 lakh in a real estate deal.

In view of this, she opposed inclusion of Jangid's name in the panel of officers recommended to be fit for the post of DGP and requested the court to quash the July 20 Government Order (GO).

When the matter came up for hearing, the government pleader requested the judge to grant a week's time for production of a file which would have a bearing on the case.

The judge then asked him to produce the file and adjourned the matter to August 7 while ordering maintenance of status quo till then.

He also directed the government pleader to inform the authorities concerned about the order.

The petitioner claimed that her complaint against the accused was closed as a "mistake of fact" following the interference of Jangid.

The petitioner sought a direction to call for all the records pertaining to the cases pending against her.
