HC moved against training Lankan defence personnel in India

A PIL has been filed in the Madras High Court bench here seeking to direct the Union Government to drop its move to train Sri Lankan defence personnel in naval warefare among others.

When the matter came up today, a division bench comprising Justices R Sudhakar and S Vaidhyanathan posted the case for hearing on December 9.

Petitioner K K Ramesh said the government had decided to provide training not only in warfare but in various latest developments in war technology.

He claimed the move had hurt the feelings of crores of Tamil people all over the world as the Sri Lankan forces had killed innocent Tamils in the island during Eelam war.
 

The Lankan navy was also attacking Indian fishermen in the sea, he charged and sought a direction to the Union Home, Foreign and Defence Secretaries to withdraw the decision.
