Claiming that sand quarry agents were charging 'exorbitant' price for sand, a businessman has filed a petition in the Madras High Court bench seeking a direction to authorities to ensure sale of sand the price fixed by the government.

In his petition, V Venkatachalapathi submitted that while the government had fixed the price of two units sand at Rs 625 besides loading charge of Rs 113, the quarry agents were collecting Rs 4,500.

He sought an interim injunction restraining the officials including the collectors of ten districts in the southern Tamil Nadu and PWD officials from allowing the agents from claiming exorbitant rate.
