A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court today gave the green signal to the Telangana government to go ahead with the recruitment of Agriculture Officers, Agriculture Extension Officers and Horticulture Officers.

The Telangana government immediately after coming to power had requested Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) to go ahead with the recruitment of about 1,300 officers in the above categories.

However, the contract employees who were recruited earlier in various schemes sponsored by the central government had approached the high court questioning the notifications on the ground that the Telangana government did not provide any weightage to the contract service rendered by them.

Although a written test was conducted, the recruitment process could not be completed due to the intervention of the high court.

The batch of writ petitions were dismissed by the Division Bench headed by Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice G Shyam Prasad holding that the contract service need not be given any weightage as such.

The bench, however, directed the government that in the event of there being a tie between contract employees and direct recruit by securing equal marks, the contract employee shall be given preference. With today's order, decks has been cleared for recruitment of 1,300-odd officers in the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments.
