The Orissa High Court today issued notice to BJD MP N Bhaskar Rao to appear before it on September 20 and file his written statement in connection with a petition by Congress MLA Bhujabal Majhi challenging Rao's election to Rajya Sabha.
Justice Biswanath Rath while admitting the petition of Majhi, filed last month, gave an opportunity to the BJD leader to file his objections through an affidavit and posted the matter for September 20.
The Congress legislator has urged the high court to declare Rao's election as "null and void" for allegedly submitting a false affidavit along with his nomination papers.
Majhi has claimed that despite having an income tax due of around Rs 41 lakh on the day he filed the nomination, Rao in had shown that he had no such liability.
