The Delhi High Court today sought CBI's response to jailed former Haryana Chief Minister O P Chautala's plea seeking a direction to Tihar jail authorities to provide him treatment either at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here or in Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.
A bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul asked CBI to file its response by December 24 on a plea that Chautala, who is serving a 10-year jail term in the teachers recruitment scam case, is comfortable with the doctor at R M L Hospital.
Besides Chautala, the court extended the interim bail of Ajay Chautala and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) member Sher Singh Badshami till December 19 and that of IAS officer Vidya Dhar till December 24.
Advocate Amit Sahni, appearing for Chautala, pleaded with the court that his client (O P Chautala) is "suffering from various ailments including tuberculosis, peripheral neuritis, low backache, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and various other geriatric ailments".
"It is further stated that he had availed treatment from RML and Medanta, the Medicity Hospital post-conviction and all medical history of the applicant/appellant is lying with the RML Hospital or the Medanta Hospital," the petition said.
The counsel further informed that bench that Chautala wished to avoid the ordeal of undergoing a fresh series of medical tests, which cause physical and mental trauma to him more particularly due to his old age.
On January 22, 2013, a special CBI court had convicted and sentenced Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay along with seven others and gave them 10-year jail term each for illegally recruiting 3,206 junior teachers in 2000.
Among other convicts, 44 were sentenced to four years in jail and one to five-year jail term.
All of them were held guilty of cheating, forgery, using fake documents as genuine, conspiracy under IPC and of abusing their official position under Prevention of Corruption Act.
