The Himachal Pradesh HighCourt today issued show cause notices to the Divisional Forest Officers-cum-Collectors for non-compliance of the orders of the court pertaining to encroachments on forest land andasked the officers to show cause why contempt proceedings would not be initiated against them.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, passed the order on a petition taken upsuo motoby the Court as Public Interest Litigation on a letter written to the Chief Justice by Krishan Chand Sarta of Jubbal against illegal encroachments on forest land.
The court further directed the Collector, the Appellate Authority and Revisional Authority to decide all the proceedings pending before them within four weeks after hearing the parties and also directed all the respondents to follow the directions passed by the court from time to time in letter and spirit.

The court had directed Divisional Forest Officer Officers-cum-Collectors in its orders passed on May 10, 2016 to positively complete the proceedings pending before them within two months.
But when the above order was not complied with, the court issued show cause notice against the officers and listed the case for August 8.
