The Madras High Court on Monday sought the stand of Election Commission on a petition seeking unseating of AIADMK MP O P Ravindranath Kumar for allegedly resorting to electoral malpractice during the Lok Sabha elections early this year.
A bench of Justice M S Ramesh also issued notice to Kumar seeking his stand on the election petition filed by one Milani, a voter in his parliamentary constituency Theni.
Milani moved the high court accusing Kumar, son of Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, of distributing money to voters in his constituency in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls in April this year.
The petitioner also sought the court's direction to declare Kumar's election as null and void.
The petitioner contended that despite availability of ample evidence and videos footage of the alleged bribing of voters in Theni by the AIADMK, the EC officials decided to go on with the election on April 18.
