Press Trust of India Madurai
Madras high court today ordered

notice to the former Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission R Natraj for not appointing six Scheduled Caste candidates, who were in the reserve list in the examination conducted for village administrative officers (VAO) posts in 2011, after giving an undertaking in the court.

Petitioners, including M Saravanan, submitted that the TNPSC told the court on December 5, 2012 that the reserved list, wherein the petitioners have been included is still in operation and as and when their turn comes they will be considered for allotment of post of VA0s. The court also recorded the submission and closed the case.

Now, as per government record, there were 200 vacancies in ten districts, but the TNPSC did not obey the court order and fill them from the reserve list and called for application to fill 1,500 posts of VAOs for 2013-14.

The petitioners also gave a representation that they were entitled for appointment in view of the court order and undertaking. This was clear case of contempt of court, they contended.

Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice V M Velumani ordered notice returnable within two weeks.
