Press Trust of India Chennai
Madras High Court has ordered notice to four schools in Ariyalur district on a PIL, seeking a direction to CBSE Regional Officer to check if they had its affilation as claimed and to take action if they had not.

The first bench, comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar, before which the PIL filed by Tamizhaga Consumer Movement in Udayarpalayam came up for hearing on June 9, ordered notice to the schools, three of which are in Jayamkondam and one in Venkatespuram in the district

It said CBSE counsel G Nagarajan should get instructions on whether these schools are actually recognised by CBSE.

The bench said that R Vijayakumar, representing Directorate of Teacher Education and Research and Training and Ariyalur Chief Educational Officer, should ascertain from the District Collector whether the schools are recognised by any other board or authority.

The petitioner submitted that the schools -- NR Public, Jai Hind International, Modern Matriculation and Golden Gate Vidhyashram in advertisements in newspapers, local electronic media and posters, claimed they are affiliated to CBSE. But nowhere was the affiliation number and year mentioned, which was mandatory.

In May last, it also applied to local educational authorities to make available the status of the four schools, for which no reply was received, the petitioner said.

Hence, the present writ petition was filed.
