The Himachal Pradesh High Court today issued notice to the state Secretary Transport on the issue of converting the waiting Room in the Old Bus Stand Shimla into shopping complex and directed the official to file a reply within four weeks.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed this orders on a petition filed by Asha Chauhan.

During the hearing, the court observed that public interest is involved in this matter and treated it as a PIL.

The petitioner challenged the tender notice issued in January, wherein tenders were invited by the HP Bus Stand Management and Development Authority for the repairing work of the Old Bus Stand.

It was further alleged that under the garb of repairing work, the authority was converting the waiting room into a shopping complex.

The petitioner further said that women passengers who are harassed and eve teased feel secure in waiting rooms, and alleged that the management is more concerned with their profit rather than such social issues.
