The Madras High Court today sought within a week's time the reply of the Madurai corporation commissioner on the issue of implementation of a government order providing for the demolition of highrises in the vicinity of Meenakshi temple.
The notice by a division bench comprising justices Paul Vasanthkumar and Devadoss came on a PIL filed by one ASM Kumar seeking action on a government order regarding heritage city status for Madurai.
The petitioner pointed to the presence of unauthorised structures around the temple which had allegedly come up in violation of a January 30, 1997, government order restricting the height of buildings around the temple to nine metres.
