The Madras High Court today issued a notice to Tamil Nadu government on a batch of petitions seeking to quash a government order enabling students who passed Plus Two in earlier academic years to apply for admission to MBBS and BDS course in 2015.
Justice S Vaidhyanathan issued the notice to the Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare and others, including the Director of Medical Education and the Seceretary of the selection committee returnable within two weeks.
The 16 petitioners, represented by their guardians, said those who wrote the Plus Two examination in previous years could not be made eligible for this academic year selection as the nature of the higher secondary examination every year changed. The type of evaluation and kind of awarding marks differed from year to year. Even a fraction of mark made a vast difference in the selection process.
They further said candidates had been liberally awarded marks in the previous year.
Hence, the G.O issued on April 24 last enabling the admission for previous year students to MBBS and BDS course for the year 2015-16 was not fair and would deprive the legitimate chances of admission of the 2015 candidates, they contended.
It was necessary to evolve a method equalising the marks awarded in the examination of various years. Unless it was evolved, there would be discrimination in the selection, the petitioners said adding the GO and its connected prospectus should be quashed.
