The Madras High Court has ordered arrest of retired IAS officer D Vivekanandan and his son, against whom a non-bailable warrant (NBW) is pending in a job racket case.

Taking note of non-execution of the NBW issued by a city court, Justice P N Prakash in an interim order on a petition said, "It appears there is some pressure on the police from serving bureaucrats lobby to torpedo the main case itself."

The accused did not appear before the Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, where the NBW was pending and police was not able to execute it, he said and ordered the Inspector of Police of Tirumangalam station here to apprehend the accused.

Petitioner A Ganapathy, one of the victims of the racket, has sought a direction to the police to execute the warrant and apprehend the accused.

The Judge also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anna Nagar) to supervise the case, take steps to apprehend Vivekanandan, who retired last year, and his son Kavin Vivek, and submit a status report on July 13.

According to prosecution, the retired officer had allegedly received Rs 1.3 crore from 13 persons for getting jobs in the state secretariat.

Police have registered a case and arraigned Vivekanandan as the second accused and his son Kavin Vivek as the first accused. After investigation, they had also filed the final report in the Magistrate Court, which later issued the NBW as the accused did not appear before it.
