The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today ordered a DNA test on a baby girl, which allegedly went missing from a private hospital in Ramanathapuram district in 2015, to ascertain its identity.

A division bench of Justice A Selvam and Justice G Chockalingam issued a directive to police to submit the DNA test report on April 11, while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by the father of the missing girl child.

Police produced a baby girl today in the court, which directed them to perform the DNA test at Kennet hospital here.

The petitioner Sakthivel submitted that his wife had delivered a baby girl at Ramani Hospital in Ramanathapuram on September 16 2015, and the baby then went missing the next day.

The hospital staff said the girl had been shifted to another hospital for further treatment, he alleged.

He prayed the court to direct officials to conduct a DNA test on the child to ascertain its identify and hand it over to him.
