The Madras High Court has ordered a re-postmortem of the body of a 46-year-old woman, who died at a private home for destitute women allegedly due to tuberculosis, after doubts were raised about the cause of her death.

The directive was passed by the Madurai bench on a petition by one Kumaresan who submitted that several inmates of the home had died under suspicious circumstances and in the present case, the body of the woman, who died on August 22, had external injuries. He also submitted photographs as proof.

Justice N Kirubakaran after perusing the attached photographs said they showed external injuries while the post-mortem report had no mention about them.

The woman inmate of the home at Kodikulam was buried a day after her death at a private burial ground and the post-mortem report did not mention about external injuries.

Besides, without sending samples of lungs for tests, doctors had come to the conclusion that she had tuberculosis, the Judge noted.

The directed the Dean of Government Rajaji Hospital here to arrange for re-postmortem of the body of the woman with the help of forensic department head and submit a report tomorrow.
