HC orders status quo on MKU appointments

The Madurai bench of the Madras High court today ordered status quo over the recent appointments of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and non-Teaching Staff made by the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU).

Justice K K Sasidharan said that all appointments would be subject to the outcome of the Writ Petition filed by seven Syndicate members of the University including M M Rajarajan who had alleged that the Vice chancellor of the University Kalyani Mathivanan instigated the Registrar to make the appointments without the approval of the Syndicate.

The appointment issue was not brought on the agenda, but were inserved in the minutes of the Syndicate meeting as approved, the petitioners had submitted.
 

Despite opposition by the syndicate members, the appointments had been approved by the Vice chancellor and Registrar,and appointment orders had been issued, it was pointed out.

"The entire selection process of Assistant professors and Associate professors was unfair and illegal. Hence the court should quash the minutes regarding the appointment of teaching and non teaching staff and withdraw all the appointments", the petitioners prayed. PTI.
